Saint Gregory’s students develop leadership abilities that are guided by a strong social and moral conscience. All students (kindergarten through eighth grade) learn the value of sharing their abilities and donating their time for the betterment of others. Within the school, students in upper grades share their talents with younger students as reading buddies, peer tutors and classroom aids. In the broader community, Saint Gregory’s students participate in a variety of community service projects and activities to enhance the welfare of others. Annually, the School participates in a Thanksgiving Food Drive with the food donated to St. John’s/St. Anne’s Food Pantry. Additionally, at Christmas time Saint Gregory’s adopts families and provides gifts for the less fortunate. The students also participate in two to three other service projects during the year. Some examples have been:
- Aid for natural disasters
- Visiting veterans and nursing homes
- Care packages for our troops
- Working in soup kitchens
- Collecting money for charitable foundations
These experiences provide the students with priceless “teachable moments” that encourage and foster a spirit of giving that continues throughout their lives.
Parents and alumni are encouraged to be involved in our students’ education by participating in school events and by working on the various committees of the Board of Trustees. Parents contribute to the School through their help on field trips, their support of athletic teams, their referring new families to the School, and their involvement in School events. Parents also bring their expertise and wisdom to committees that focus on marketing the School, development and technology, as well as being involved in the Parents’ Association.
