Saint Gregory's History
Saint Gregory’s School is an elementary school open to boys and girls of all faiths. It was founded on September 17, 1962 with three teachers, 32 students, and Mr. Raymond O’Brien as headmaster. It was conceived by Catholic lay people who believed there was a need for an educational institution for boys with the highest academic standards coupled with the proper development of individual character. The School’s goal was to provide each child with the confidence, work ethic, and knowledge to succeed in the most challenging of secondary schools. For the next 27 years, Mr. O’Brien built upon the School’s philosophy of providing a rigorous education, inspired teaching, attention to individual needs, and a commitment to responsible citizenship...
In 1989, Mr. James Breene became the second headmaster and oversaw the expansion of the Upper School with new science, technology, and mathematics classrooms. A decade later, the school expanded again with the addition of the Ernst A. Kopp Wing that included a new gymnasium, locker rooms, chapel, and additional classrooms and offices. In 2016, under the leadership of Jeff Loomis as Headmaster, the Board of Trustees voted to welcome young women to our school adding strength and diversity to the student body...
Saint Gregory’s continues to adapt itself to realize the vision of its founders who were dedicated to producing students of strong character with a passion for learning. The school has grown as a co-educational institution and continues to graduate hardworking, confident, energetic leaders with strong academic achievements and interpersonal skills.
