Christiana and her mom set up a table for Lebanon at the first annual SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

We invited students and parents into the Big Gym to learn about and share information and traditions of the different countries being represented in our school. The result was a fun day of cultures and histories, along with some very good food.

We asked some students to share facts about the countries they were representing that day. Check them out, along with some photos:

Greece

Private school student Ronan set up a table representing Greece at the SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

"It has the longest coastline in Europe. The cookies we brought are good!”

Ronan, 3rd Grade

India

Private school student Arman set up a table representing India at the SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

"It is the 7th biggest country. It has the largest population of vegetarians. It’s actually a recent country and has only been around for like a hundred years or so."

Arman, 6th Grade

Armenia

Private school student Jackie set up a table representing Armenia at the SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

"Armenians were believed to be the first Christians. They have a lot of churches in Armenia. They have a lot of mountains, too."

Jackie, 4th Grade

Lebanon

Private school student Christiana set up a table representing Lebanon at the SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

"There’s lots of saints that were born in Lebanon. Saint Charbel, Saint Rafqa and Saint Hardini."

Christiana, 3rd Grade

Ireland

Private school student Eloise set up a table representing Ireland at the SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

"Some cool facts are that Ireland actually has the largest number of redheads and Halloween was actually invented in Ireland."

Eloise, 4th Grade

Puerto Rico

Private school student Khloe set up a table representing Puerto Rico at the SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

"It has a population of 3.29 million. San Juan is the capital and Bonsai is the second biggest."

Khloe, 6th Grade

Jamaica

Private school student Calvin set up a table representing Jamaica at the SGS Multi-Cultural Fair

"There's some good food. Like curry chicken and jerk chicken. The hot sauce is very hot."

Calvin, 7th Grade

Additional countries that were represented at our Multi-Cultural Fair were China, El Salvador, Germany, Italy, Israel, Pakistan, Slovakia, South Africa, Turkey and Uganda.

Thank you to all the parents who were able to help with our Multi-Cultural Day, you made this day truly special. For more photos, head to our flickr album.
