Saint Gregory’s School is proud to officially open the Joanne S. McLeod Lower School. The enhanced Lower School facility now consists of modernized classrooms for our youngest students, ranging from Pre-K through 4th grade. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank SGS alumnus Ken Ellis (‘78) for his incredibly generous donation which has been the driving force behind the realization of this project. It is the unwavering support of the entire SGS community that helps us deliver the best educational experiences to our students.
The new Saint Gregory’s Lower School stands as a tribute to former Lower School teacher Joanne McLeod, who dedicated 37 years of teaching to our school. Kenny Ellis recalls that “Mrs. McLeod made learning fun” – a simple, yet powerful compliment that was echoed by many former students who had the privilege of being under her guidance. Mrs. McLeod had the ability to recognize and unlock the gifts that every child brings to this world. Throughout her 37 years of service, she remained committed to the ‘Golden Rule’ and displayed a remarkable devotion to the education of children. An excerpt of the official dedication plaque, unveiled by Ken Ellis, reads, “Joanne’s gifts, to the students and community of Saint Gregory’s, will always be remembered.”
The renovated Lower School is an enormous asset to our youngest students. “As a student, it is an exciting time to be a part of the Lower School at SGS. I am grateful I get to experience my final year in the Lower School here,” said 4th grader Robert who spoke at the dedication ceremony. The upgrades to each classroom include new ceilings, flooring, HVAC, cubbies, furniture as well as smart TVs. Our students now benefit from fresh, clean, streamlined environments with the most updated technology.
We are excited to continue upgrading the Saint Gregory’s school building for our students. Become a part of educating the next generation of SGS students by donating today towards our upcoming projects.
