Willard Anderson
SGS Class of 2016

Willard Anderson is a Saint Gregory’s alum and the latest athlete to be recognized for academic achievement while being involved in athletics. For maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA while being a part of the Trinity College lacrosse team, Willard has been named to the NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team.
From an early age, we encourage our students to achieve this level of success. We are happy to feature Willard as an “Alumni Achievement” not only for this milestone, but because he is a role model for students that are looking to follow his path. Congrats, Willard!

Alumni Spotlight: Jim Hill
SGS Class of 1974

Jim Hill didn’t have a straight path to receiving the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics in 2016, making it even more special for us to have been associated with his journey.
Following Jim’s time at Saint Gregory’s, he graduated from the University at Albany with a degree in Mathematics and Physics before attending the PhD program at the University of Pennsylvania and became involved in particle physics experiments. In 1995, Hill’s dissertation was so controversial, publications such as the New York Times wrote about it. Not only did his thesis prevail, but it has been associated with multiple Nobel Prizes since. This was the project that in 2016 received the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
After getting his doctorate, Jim went from being a research associate at Stony Brook, to a short term fellowship at the Japan Society for Promotion of Science and a visiting research associate professor at the University of Tokyo, eventually landing at California State University, Dominguez Hills. In 2009, Hill joined CSU as an associate professor and became full time in 2014, where he remains today. During his time so far, Hill has held the positions of Department Chair, Chair in the Academic Senate, and Interim Associate Vice President of Faculty Affairs & Development.
We are thrilled to have been a part of Jim’s journey. He is one of the many Saint Gregory’s alums that make us so proud and set a great example to current and future students.
